WHAT IS THE BIS ISI MARK CERTIFICATION SCHEME?
The Indian Standards Institution started operating the Certification Marks Scheme under the Indian Standards Institution Act, 1952, to improve the Quality of Products and provide the advantages of Standardization to common consumers.
The Certification Marks Scheme is popularly known as the ‘ISI Marking Scheme’, and it was formally launched in 1955.
The BIS Standard Mark on a product is an assurance of conformity to the requirements of Indian Standard Specifications. The BIS Conformity Assessment Schemes provides confidence to consumers about the Quality, Safety, and Reliability of products and ensure Consumer Protection.
BIS certification Scheme is voluntary in nature; the number of products is made compulsory by the Government of India on various considerations like public interest, protection of human, animal, or plant health, the safety of the environment, prevention of unfair trade practices, national security.
