MANDATORY BIS CERTIFICATION FOR PVC INDUSTRIAL BOOTS

BIS certification is mandatory for industrial PVC boots. The Bureau of Indian Standard has recently added PVC boots to the mandatory certification list. It is prohibited to manufacture or import PVC industrial boots without a valid BIS license.

IS 12254:2021 covers PVC industrial boots. This standard defines the requirements, sampling, and testing methods for polyvinyl chloride boots of the following styles: ankle with at least four eyelets on each face, half knee, short knee, and knee for general industrial use for men and women, and thigh-high boots for men. The boots can be lined with fabric or unlined.

According to Footwear made from Leather and other materials (Quality Control) Order, 2020 of DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, BIS certification is mandatory for Footwear made from leather and other materials.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has mandated that all footwear made from leather and other materials bear the ISI mark, and footwear without an ISI mark is not permitted to be sold in India. Failure to do so will result in criminal liability, including imprisonment and huge fines.

According to Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations 2018, Industrial PVC boots must comply with the applicable Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau. PVC boots must be made from materials that meet the specifications specified in IS 12254:2021.

The manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards in order to use a standard mark (ISI Mark) on PVC boots. To obtain BIS certification and manufacture and sell PVC industrial boots, the manufacturer must ensure that they meet Indian standards.
