Mandatory BIS certification for Polyester Staple Fibres (PSF), 100 % Polyester Spun Grey and White Yarn (PSY)

Quality Control Orders for Polyester Staple Fibres (PSF) and 100% polyester spun grey, and white yarn has been issued by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. As per this order, polyester staple fibres (PSF) and 100 % Polyester Spun Grey and White Yarn (PSY) shall conform to the corresponding Indian standard and shall bear the Indian Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per scheme-I of schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulation, 2018. Hence, the Bureau of Indian Standards has made it mandatory to obtain BIS certification for 100 % Polyester Spun Grey and White Yarn (PSY) and polyester staple fibres (PSF).

This order was published in the official gazette on 5th April 2022. It will be effective from 3rd October 2022. Anyone who violates the terms of this order will be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

IS 17263:2019 is the Indian standard for Polyester Staple Fibres. IS 17265:2019 is the Indian standard for 100 % Polyester Spun Grey and White Yarn (PSY). The Bureau of Indian Standards has added polyester staple fibres (PSF) and 100 % Polyester Spun Grey and White Yarn (PSY) to the mandatory BIS certification list. To use a standard mark (ISI Mark), the manufacturer must first obtain BIS certification for polyester staple fibres (PSF) and 100 % Polyester Spun Grey and White Yarn (PSY) from the Bureau of Indian Standards. To obtain BIS certification for 100 % Polyester Spun Grey and White Yarn (PSY) and polyester staple fibres (PSF), the manufacturer must ensure that the Product conforms to applicable Indian standards.
