Mandatory BIS certification for Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn and Polyester Industrial Yarn

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has issued Quality Control Orders for Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn and Polyester Industrial Yarn to ensure standard compliance and the mandatory use of standard marks.

As per this order, Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn and Polyester Industrial Yarn must comply with the corresponding Indian standard and bear the Indian Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as per scheme-I of schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulation, 2018. Thus, the Bureau of Indian Standards has made it mandatory to obtain BIS certification for Polyester Industrial Yarn and Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn.

This order was published in the official gazette on 5th April 2022. It will be effective from 3rd October 2022. Anyone who violates the terms of this order will be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

The Indian standard for Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn is IS 17262:2019. The Indian standard for Polyester Industrial Yarn is IS 17264:2019. The Bureau of Indian Standards has added Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn and Polyester Industrial Yarn to the mandatory BIS certification list. The manufacturer must first obtain BIS certification for Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn and Polyester Industrial Yarn from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use an ISI Mark. To obtain BIS certification for Polyester Industrial Yarn and Polyester Partially Oriented Yarn, the manufacturer must ensure that the Product conforms to applicable Indian standards.
