Mandatory BIS certification for Phthalic Anhydride, Ethylene Glycol, Toluene, Terephthalic Acid, n-Butyl Acrylate

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers issued Quality Control Orders for Phthalic Anhydride, Ethylene Glycol, Toluene, Terephthalic Acid, and n-Butyl Acrylate on 24th December 2021 regarding Conformity to standards and compulsory use of Standard Mark.

As per the Quality Control order, 2021, all the mentioned chemicals shall conform to the corresponding Indian standard and bear the Indian Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. Hence, the Bureau of Indian Standards has made it mandatory to obtain BIS certification for Ethylene Glycol, Toluene, Terephthalic Acid, n-Butyl Acrylate, and Phthalic Anhydride.
The Bureau of Indian Standards has added Phthalic Anhydride, Ethylene Glycol, Toluene, Terephthalic Acid, and n-Butyl Acrylate to the BIS mandatory product certification list. Therefore, it is mandatory to obtain a BIS certificate for Toluene, Terephthalic Acid, n-Butyl Acrylate, and Ethylene Glycol and use of standard ISI mark on the product. Without BIS certification, no one is allowed to manufacture, sell, or import products in India.

A notification was published in the official gazette on 13th June 2022 regarding an amendment in quality control order 2021. It will go into effect on the 22nd day of December 2022.

The manufacturer must first obtain BIS certification for Ethylene Glycol, Toluene, Terephthalic Acid, n-Butyl Acrylate, Phthalic, and Anhydride from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark. The Bureau of Indian standards grants a BIS license only after verifying that the product complies with all relevant requirements of Indian standards. To obtain BIS certification for all products, the manufacturer must ensure that the Product conforms to applicable Indian standards.
