ISI Mark is Mandatory for Plywood for general purposes as per BIS IS 303: 1989. This Indian Standard lays down the requirements, sampling and test procedures for plywood used for general purpose applications in furniture, interior construction, paneling, partition making, packaging and other wood-based applications. The standard sets out the basic parameters of quality, including dimensions, tolerances of thickness, bonding strength, moisture resistance, workmanship, physical and mechanical properties, to guarantee durability and reliable operation under the conditions of service. IS 303 also lays down the requirements for quality of veneers, adhesive bonding and defect-free veneers (delamination, warping and surface imperfection). The standard focuses on the controlled manufacturing processes and intensive quality testing to ensure consistency, structural strength and long-term serviceability of the plywood. It also contains requirements for marking, packing, and labelling for identification, traceability, and compliance verification. The certification by Bureau of Indian Standards (IS 303) guarantees adherence to the quality and safety standards set by the Indian government, guaranteeing the reliability and viability of the plywood.
