Safety rubber canvas boots must comply with the applicable Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau, according to Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations 2018. Safety rubber canvas boots for miners must be made from materials that meet the requirements of IS 3976:2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has mandated that all footwear made from leather and other materials bear the ISI mark, and footwear without an ISI mark is not permitted to be sold in India. Failure to do so will result in criminal liability, including imprisonment and huge fines.

To use a standard mark (ISI Mark) on safety rubber canvas boots, the manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
