BIS Certification for Freezer and Household Refrigerating Appliances

BIS certification is mandatory for Freezer and Household Refrigerating Appliances. To use the standard ISI mark, all manufacturers must obtain BIS certification for freezers in accordance with IS 7872:2018 and household refrigeration appliances in accordance with IS 17550 (PART 1):2020.

In order to ensure standards compliance and the required use of standard marks, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued the Refrigerating Appliances (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2021. This QCO stipulates that Household Refrigerating Appliances and Freezers shall comply with the corresponding Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau. It is mandatory to obtain BIS certification for household refrigerators and freezers.

Refrigerating appliances must be BIS certified to ensure that they meet Indian standards and are safe and reliable for customers. To obtain a BIS license for Household Refrigerating Appliances and Freezers, manufacturers must ensure that their products meet Indian standards. The Bureau of Indian Standards grants the manufacturer a BIS licence to use the standard ISI Mark on its product and sell it in the Indian market.
