BIS QCO EXTENSION FOR REFRIGERATING APPLIANCES

The Central Government issued the Refrigerating Appliances (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022, in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards, after further amending the Refrigerating Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2020.
As per this QCO Amendment order, the deadline to comply with Refrigerating Appliances (Quality Control) Order 2020 has been extended to Jan 1, 2024, to satisfy demands from industry stakeholders.

According to this QCO, the household refrigerators and freezers must meet the applicable Indian standards and bear the standard ISI mark.

It is mandatory to obtain BIS certification for household refrigerators and freezers to use the standard ISI mark. All manufacturers are required to get BIS certification for freezers in accordance with IS 7872:2018 and household refrigeration appliances in accordance with IS 17550 (Part 1):2021 to use the standard ISI mark. Household Refrigerating Appliances and Freezers shall comply with the corresponding Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
