WHAT IS ECO MARK SCHEME IN INDIA?
The Bureau of Indian standard (BIS) issues the ECO-MARK as a certification mark for environmentally friendly products that meet BIS standards designed to have the least impact on the environment.
The Indian government introduces the Eco-labeling scheme known as ‘ECO MARK’ in 1991 to raise consumer awareness and make it easier to identify environmentally acceptable items. The 'Eco Mark' label is given to consumer items that meet the stipulated environmental criteria as well as the quality requirements of Indian Standards. An ecologically friendly product is one that is created, utilized, or disposed of in a way that significantly reduces the harm it would cause the environment.
The mark applies to food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, electrical goods, paper, lubricating oils, packing materials, and other items. The ECO-MARK scheme is operated by the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change.
An earthen pot is a logo of Eco Mark, which conveys its environmental message. Its image has the ability to connect with people and create awareness about the necessity of environmental stewardship. The logo of the Scheme indicates which products cause the least environmental damage.
