BIS CERTIFICATION IS MANDATORY FOR TOYS

All toys manufacturers, dealers, traders, and retailers of Delhi NCR, Gujarat, Hyderabad are advised not to manufacture or sell toys without BIS certification.

The BIS team searched various outlets across countries and discovered that retailers were selling toys without ISI mark, and this is a violation of the Toys Quality Control Order-2020.

BIS's search and seizure operations at toy stores have spread across countries in the last few months. Before being caught out, all toy manufacturers of Ahmadabad (Gujarat), Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, and other parts of India must become BIS certified.

According to the BIS Act 2016, violating Quality Control Orders issued by the government is a punishable offense with imprisonment up to two years or a fine of at least Rs. 2,00,000, or both.

According to Toys (Quality Control) Order 2020, BIS certification is mandatory for toys. This law came into force in October 2020. A notification was issued in January 2021, making the sale of toys without an ISI mark an offence. There have been awareness campaigns in the interim, and BIS has now begun raids to ensure that only ISI-marked toys are sold in the country.

The toys Manufacturer of Delhi NCR, Gujarat, Hyderabad must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark (ISI Mark). The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.
