BIS Certification for Milk and Milk Products

BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme for Milk and Milk Products: The Milk and Milk Product Conformity Assessment Scheme focuses on the certification of milk and milk products, as well as the certification of process requirements and the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) implemented by the dairy unit to improve safety and quality.
Given the perishable nature and short shelf-life of milk and milk products and the extensive cold chain involved in the production and supply of milk and milk products, BIS has developed a novel and first-of-its-kind certification scheme for milk and milk products.

The scheme was created in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards and the National Dairy Development Board. It aims to provide a comprehensive approach to the dairy and milk production quality ecosystems.

This scheme covers the requirements for conformity assessment of milk and milk products for the grant of a BIS licence in accordance with Scheme-IX of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) (Sixth Amendment) Regulations, 2021, to use Standard Mark for goods and articles conforming to Indian Standard, combined with the conformity of management system to Indian Standard and conformity of process requirements.

The Bureau may grant a dairy unit a BIS licence to use a standard mark per this scheme. To ensure that milk products adhere to the applicable standards, all dairy units/organizations must obtain BIS certification for milk and milk products.
