BIS Certification for Insect Nets for Agriculture and Horticulture purposes

Insect nets are used in agriculture and horticulture to protect crops from insects such as aphids, carrot flies, cabbage root fly, whitefly, etc. Insect nets are classified into three types based on mesh size: 30, 40, and 50. In order to use the standard mark and comply with specified Indian standards, insect nets must be BIS certified.

IS 16513:2016 Define the specifications and performance requirements for Agrotextiles - Insect nets used in agriculture and horticulture. All insect nets must comply with Indian standards and bear the Standard ISI Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards.

All insect net manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS Certification for insect net from the Bureau of Indian Standards in order to use a standard ISI mark. The manufacturer is given a BIS license to use the standard ISI mark on their product and sell it in the Indian market. The Bureau of Indian Standards will grant a BIS license only after confirming that the product complies with Indian standards.

The manufacturer of insect nets shall have to submit an application through the BIS portal in order to receive a BIS licence for insect nets. BIS officials will review the application and audit the manufacturing facility after application submission. Samples will be tested to ensure the product complies with Indian standards. The Bureau will issue a BIS licence to the manufacturer if the insect nets are in compliance with Indian standards.
