Bis Certification for Bedsheets and Pillow Covers
The Ministry of Textiles has introduced the "Medical Textiles (Quality Control) Order, 2023, " scheduled to become effective on April 1, 2024, while Small and Micro Enterprises (SME) will need to comply by October 1, 2024. This order specifically pertains to items such as Bedsheets and Pillow Covers, excluding those intended for export.
To meet compliance standards, Bedsheets and Pillow Covers must adhere to the specified Indian Standard IS 17630:2021 and prominently display the Standard Mark through a license obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau of Indian Standards has been assigned the role of the certifying and enforcing authority for Bedsheets and Pillow Covers, as outlined in this Order. Any violation of the provisions within this Order is subject to penalties in accordance with the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
