Bis Certification For Disposable Baby Diapers
The Government of India, through the Ministry of Textiles, has recently mandated that all diapers used in the country, whether locally produced or imported from abroad, must possess a valid Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) license. This directive, effective until October 1, 2024, for small and micro-enterprises, and April 1, 2024, for others, underscores the necessity for manufacturers, both domestic and international, to promptly apply for a BIS license and secure a valid BIS certification license to comply with the stipulated regulations.
Baby diapers, essential for maintaining the personal hygiene of infants, now fall under the stringent quality standards outlined by the BIS, specifically IS 17509:2021. This comprehensive framework encompasses various parameters, including pH value, absorption rate, re-wetting under load, minimum absorption capacity, hygiene, biocompatibility, biodegradability, and antimicrobial requirements, ensuring the safety and efficacy of disposable baby diapers for external use.
The BIS certification process, integral to the Bureau of Indian Standards Certification Scheme, is a vital framework established by the government to ensure the quality, safety, and reliability of products in the market. This certification scheme aims to protect consumer interests by setting stringent standards and guidelines that products must meet before being deemed compliant. The process involves manufacturers identifying the relevant BIS standard for their product category, submitting a detailed application to the Bureau of Indian Standards, undergoing factory inspections to assess quality control processes, and providing product samples for testing in authorized BIS laboratories or recognized testing centers.
