Bis Certification For Safe Deposit Locker Cabinet
The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has issued a Quality Control Order known as the "Safes, Safe Deposit Locker Cabinets, and Key Locks (Quality Control) Order, 2023." This order will take effect six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. Goods or articles such as Safes, Safe Deposit Locker Cabinets, and Key Locks must adhere to the corresponding Indian Standard 5244: 2020 (Safe deposit locker cabinets) and display the Standard Mark obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
This Order does not apply to goods or articles produced domestically for export. Micro and small enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are exempt from the provisions for twelve months and nine months, respectively, from the date of publication of this notification.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for Safes, Safe Deposit Locker Cabinets, and Key Locks covered by this Order. Violation of this Order is subject to punishment under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
