Bis certification for Steel Wire Suspension Ropes for Lifts, Elevators and Hoists
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a Quality Control Directive titled "Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes, and Wire Mesh (Quality Control) Order, 2023." This directive will come into effect six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Products falling within the categories of Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes, and Wire Mesh are required to comply with the corresponding Indian Standard 2365:2018 (Steel Wire Suspension Ropes for Lifts, Elevators, and Hoists) and display the Standard Mark. The acquisition of this mark is contingent upon obtaining a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
It is essential to highlight that this order does not pertain to goods manufactured domestically for export.
For micro-enterprises, as defined in Section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the directive will become effective twelve months from the date of publication. In the case of small enterprises, it will be enforced nine months from the date of publication.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for these products.
Any infringement of this order is subject to punishment under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
