Bis Certification for Steel Wire Ropes for General Engineering Purposes
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a Quality Control Directive titled "Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes, and Wire Mesh (Quality Control) Order, 2023." This directive shall come into effect six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
Products falling within the categories of Steel Wires or Strands, Nylon or Wire Ropes, and Wire Mesh are required to conform to the relevant Indian Standard 2266:2019 (Steel Wire Ropes for General Engineering Purposes) and display the Standard Mark. It is crucial to emphasize that this order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods intended for export.
For micro-enterprises, as defined in Section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the directive becomes effective twelve months from the date of publication. In the case of small enterprises, it comes into force nine months from the date of publication.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for these products.
Any violation of this order is subject to punishment under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
