BIS Certification forFire Retardant Plywood
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently issued the “Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters (Quality Control) Order, 2023”, which will come into effect after six months from its official notification. However, for small enterprises as defined by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), enforcement will commence after nine months from the date of publication of this notification. Micro Enterprises, as per the same Act, will be implemented after twelve months from the date of publication.
Under this order, all plywood and wooden flush door shutters will have to comply with Indian Standard 5509:2021 (Fire Retardant Plywood) and bear the standard mark for which a license is required from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-I of Schedule-II. Will be required. Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
It is important to note that this order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods for export. Bureau of Indian Standards will act as the certification and enforcement authority for plywood and wooden flush door shutters. Those violating this order will face penalties as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 in case of non-compliance
