BIS Certification for V-belts IS 14261 :1995
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently enacted the "V-Belts (Quality Control) Order, 2023," a Quality Control Order. This order will become effective six months from its publication in the Official Gazette. According to this order, V-Belts must comply with the relevant Indian Standard 14261 :1995, specifically focusing on Transmission Devices – V – Belts endless narrow V-Belts for industrial use. Manufacturers are required to display the Standard Mark, obtainable through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
It is crucial to understand that this order does not apply to domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export. Furthermore, micro-enterprises, as defined in clause (h) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), are exempt from these requirements for a period of twelve months from the date of this notification. Similarly, small enterprises, as defined in clause (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), have a nine-month exemption from the date of this notification.
The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority concerning goods and articles related to V-Belts. Any individual or entity found in violation of this order will be subject to penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
