BIS Hallmarking Certification is a certificate issued to the jeweller by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national standard organization in India. This certificate (License) confirms that a piece of gold jewel adheres to the standards set by BIS. After getting hallmark certification, a jeweller can get their jewellery hallmarked by any BIS recognized Assaying and Hallmarking centre.

Under the BIS Hallmarking Scheme for Gold and Silver, jewellers are required to take registration for the sale of the Hallmarked article for each outlet. A jeweller under the same management having more than one sales outlet can obtain a corporate licence covering all of its sales outlets. 

What is Hallmarking Centre?

Assaying and Hallmarking Centre is an institution where purity testing and marking of the jewellery is done or we can say it is the testing laboratory for precious metals. The Hallmarking Centre should be certified from BIS. Assaying is the technical term used for the quantitative chemical analysis of precious metal. This is often done to save the consumers from buying fake products.
