BIS RAIDS ON TOYS MANUFACTURER AND TRADERS
The Bureau of Indian standard (BIS) keeps an eye on the quality of toys. Nowadays, BIS is conducting a raid at toy stores, City Mall in different parts of countries and also plans to conduct more raids in the whole country to ensure that only ISI-Marked products are manufactured and sold in the Indian market.
News is coming from different parts of countries where the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a search and seizure raid at toy stores in Hyderabad, Bhopal, Kochi, and Kolkata. The sale of toys without an ISI mark is strictly prohibited.
Various Indian Standards have been developed, including safety aspects related to toys' physical and mechanical properties, such as sharp edges, flammability, and toxic element transfer, and test methods for finger paints. IS 9873 (Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9) and IS 15644 covers toys. To prevent the sale of low-quality toys in the market, the central government made BIS certification mandatory for toys under the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020. The Bureau of Indian standard (BIS) has mandated that all-electric and non-electric toys bear the ISI mark, and toys without an ISI mark are not allowed to be sold in the country.
The Manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use a standard mark. The BIS grants a license based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production process.
